1Cost of ownership extremely high

This review covers the CVA 2660 (the predecessor of the CVA 2662) because the inner workings of the machine are basically the same. The major difference between these two models is that Miele added touch controls to the CVA 2662. Other than that, they are virtually identical models. We bought the CVA 2660 in 2005 and had it replaced under warranty due to constant error messages that the technicians could not fix. The second unit performed better initially but after around 2,000 coffees the error messages appeared again. The two main issues were the feeding and ejection mechanism of the capsules. For existing owners of the CVA 2660 or CVA 2662, the error codes were F72 and F75. We could fix the problem by removing the stuck capsules and completely restarting the machine. Needless to say that every time a capsule got stuck, it was unusable. With multiple error messages per week (sometimes several per day), the cost of lost Nespresso capsules was not insignificant ($0.65 per capsule) - we lost easily $100 per year just on that.Other problems that started to appear:- "empty drip tray" message even though it was empty - sensors regularly gave incorrect message- dripping of water through the steam valve while making coffeeOver the last few weeks, the F72 error (capsule stuck in feeder) has become so regular that we called in a technician who told us that the boiler unit is rusty due to a leak in the machine, spraying a fine mist of water over everything inside the unit... Combined with the repair of the feeder system, the repair bill would be at least $800 to just cover the "basics" to get the machine back into proper working condition. However, considering other errors, the technician warned us that other elements may break down relatively soon. So, in other words, it would cost at least $800 right now but more likely well in excess of $1,000 to repair a $2,500 machine that brewed around 9,000 coffees.I understand that machines break down and need to be repaired after a certain amount of time. Question is, what is a reasonable repair cost. In the case of the Nespresso Miele machine, Miele somehow thinks it is acceptable that a customer spends almost 50% of the initial acquisition cost to get the unit back to perfect operating condition. And guess what warranty do they provide: 90 days on the repaired parts! Some may argue that other fully automatic machines cost a lot to repair, too. As previous owners of a $2,500 Jura "super automatic" we agree but the repair/service cost on that Jura was much more reasonable: $300.Conclusion: As long as you understand that the repair costs will be extremely high, the CVA 2660 or CVA 2662 will serve you excellent coffee. Expect capsule feeding and ejection errors within a year of purchasing the machine. And besides the $0.65 capsule, you should set $0.30 per capsule aside to fund the replacement unit - buying a new machine will likely be a better option than spending a massive amount on repairs.
