We bought this to replace our aging Gaggia Titanium (also a Saeco). It is the fourth super-automatic we have owned over the past decade-plus. We would normally never have considered such an expensive machine but we found it on a pre-christmas sale for ~70% off which made it feel like a merely ridiculous (as opposed to totally absurd) price to pay for a coffee maker.What do we think? There is no doubt, this is the best machine we have ever seen or used. It is much more than a regular super-automatic. I think it is in a category by itself, almost Jetson-like in its level of automation.Build QualityThe build quality is excellent. Hinges are sturdy stainless, fit and finish is outstanding, each component fits as though made by a craftsman. There are dozens of nice touches throughout the design - from the air tight coffee bin to the little magnets that keep everything securely in place to the noise dampening. It really feels top of the line in every respect.Truly Custom CoffeeWe love having it programed for each of us. With eight or so different drinks programmed in for each user, one simply presses a button and not only gets, for example, a large espresso, but a large espresso in the strength, temperature, and quantity that YOU like. Press two more buttons and your spouse gets the same beverage customized the way she likes it. All in all you can set up six users each with up to 8 different custom drinks. You can even set up two different "you" prefrences - Extra Tired Bob and just plain Bob. One person likes lots of foam, the next likes wet lattes, a third likes double espresso in the latte? No problem. Just program it for your preferences and let your family members do the same. Press the touchscreen and, presto, the Xelsis is brewing just for you. No more setting the grind, temperature, etc. to a compromise level. Way cool. (The setup takes a bit of effort and lots of taste testing, but you will enjoy getting your drink selection perfectly suited to your tastes.)OperationThe fingerprint thing is a useless gimmick but it works as advertised (it is much faster to just press the user button and select your own name). The latte/cappucino is fantastic. Keep the milk in the fridge. Takes about 5 seconds to slip it into the Xelsis and it is ready to froth (completely automatic, of course). After it is finished, push the milk arm out of the way and it rinses the milk hose automatically. Another 5 seconds to disconnect and replace the magnetic cover.AestheticsIt is beautiful. The photos do not do it justice. If I compare this to our stainless Gaggia Titanium (no slouch in the looks department) it is the difference between a shiny new town car (beautiful and luxurious) and a Rolls Royce (no comparison).WeaknessesWater compartment and drip tray could both use a few ounces of additional capacity.So why only four stars? Because it is ridiculously expensive even when it is on sale. I rationalize it by figuring that we will get another 8,000 - 10,000 cups out of this (as we have with our Saeco machines), so it will cost under 15 cents a cup for all this amazing convenience (I found a really good sale). Still, with a three-cough, cough-grand retail...What About The Coffee?The coffee is perfect! Just the way I like it. If you get one of these, it will come out just the way you like it too.

I have had several Saeco espresso machines in the past. This is the best espresso machine I have had so far.Pros:1. Beautiful look: Stainless everywhere. This machine became the focal point of my house2. Excellent Coffee: It makes about 165 degree hot coffee. you can adjust the temperature or preset it. I had $1000 Saeco machine. I thought the machine was the best to make an espresso. This machine makes better coffee and makes thick crema3. Quiet: during the grind, it doesn't make a big noise. I was very impressed with the quietness. the coffee container has a vacuum sealed cover. I think that helped a lot.4. Easy Latte, Cappuccino: with just one touch you can make latte, cappuccino..you name it. After the use, machine cleans the inside tube of container so you can put it into refrigerator right away. This machine saved me a lot of time especially when my guests lined up for my coffee:)5. 6 different user setting: you can customize your coffee preference. You can use your thumbprint for machine to recognize. How cool is that!Cons:1. Milk wasn't hot enough (at first use) : I noticed that some ppl was complaining about the milk temperature when dispensing from the milk container. It wasn't hot in the beginning. but I found that switching narrower milk container tube helps a lot. Manufacture provided 3 different size tubes but I didn't know what they are then I realized those tube has different thickness. This instruction should be included in the manual.In general this machine works very well. I researched a lot before purchasing this product. I don't think other manufactures haven't came up with this level of luxurious design. XELSIS IS THE BEST!!!!!!!
